California's Conor Niland Named Pac-10 Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - California senior men's tennis player Conor Niland has been named the Pac-10 Men's Tennis Player of the Week for April 3-6, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Niland, a senior from Limerick, Ireland, defeated USC's Dejan Cvetkovic on Friday in two sets, 6-0, 6-3. On Saturday Niland, the No. 11 ranked player, upset UCLA's top-ranked Benjamin Kohlloeffel in two set, 6-4, 6-3. This was the second time Niland has defeated Kohlloeffel. In early February, Niland then-No. 41, defeated the then-No. 3 Kohlloeffel, 6-3, 6-2, in Berkeley. With the victory against Kohlloeffel on Saturday, Niland extends his winning streak to 16, the longest in the Nation.
The award is Niland's third Pac-10 Player of the Week honor this season.
The Bears host Arizona State on Friday, April 14 at 1:30 p.m. (PDT) and Arizona on Saturday, April 15 at 1 p.m. (PDT). The matches will be held at the Hellman Tennis Center.
