No. 14 Bruins to Host Oregon This Friday

Bruins vs. Ducks This Friday . . .
The No. 14 UCLA women's tennis team (12-4; 4-2 Pac-10) has just one match this week, as the Bruins are scheduled to host Oregon (12-7; 1-4 Pac-10) this Friday at the Los Angeles Tennis Center beginning at 1:30 p.m. The Bruins own a perfect 9-0 record against the Ducks, including a 5-2 victory in Eugene last season. UCLA Drops Two in the Bay Area . . .
UCLA dropped its first two conference matches of the season last week, falling to top-ranked Stanford, 7-0 on Friday and to No. 13 Cal, 4-3 on Saturday. The Bruins were looking for at least a split after beating Cal in a non-conference match earlier in the season. Although the Bruins won the doubles point, Cal came back to win four of six singles matches to take the slim 4-3 win.

UCLA Checks in at No. 14 in Fila/ITA Rankings . . .
Following its losses in the Bay Area, UCLA fell from No. 10 to No. 14 in the latest Fila/ITA Team Rankings released on Tuesday. Individual rankings come out every two weeks and were last released on April 4. Laura Gordon is ranked No. 20 in singles. She is followed by No. 42 Tracy Lin, No. 110 Ashley Joelson, No. 117 Alex McGoodwin and No. 124 Anna-Viktoria Lind. Gordon and Riza Zalameda are ranked No. 23 in doubles. New team and individual rankings will be released on April 18.

Big Week Ahead . . .
UCLA rounds out the regular season next week with three matches, two of which are make-ups after rain forced postponements earlier in the year. The Bruins begin the week with a non-conference meeting at No. 4 USC at 1:30 p.m. UCLA will then host Cal Poly San Luis Obispo the following day at 1:30 p.m. The Bruins end the regular season at the LATC on Friday, hosting USC again, this time in a Pac-10 counting match, at 1:30 p.m.

Gordon to be Honored on Senior Day . . .
As the lone senior on this year's team, Laura Gordon will be honored for her accomplishments the past four years in a short ceremony prior to the USC match on April 21. Gordon, who is ranked No. 20 in the country, is enjoying an outstanding senior season, posting a 21-7 overall singles record, including a 10-4 mark in dual-match play. Additionally, she is 6-2 at the No. 1 position. In doubles, she and teammate Riza Zalameda are ranked 23rd in the country. The duo owns a 12-2 overall record and is 11-1 in dual matches at the No. 1 position.

Head Coach Stella Sampras Webster . . .
Stella Sampras Webster is in her 10th season as the head coach of the UCLA women's tennis team. She owns a career record of 162-87 (.651). In her first nine seasons at UCLA, Sampras Webster guided the Bruins to eight top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships, including five top-5 showings (1997, 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2004). In 2004, she led UCLA to the NCAA Finals for the first time since 1991. It also marked the first time since 1991 that the Bruins surpassed the 20-win mark, finishing with a 21-8 overall record.
