Softball Downs Washington, 6-0

SEATTLE - UCLA took the lead in the top of the second inning on a one-out home run by Jodie Legaspi, the Bruins first hit of the day, and never looked back as the Bruins (34-3, 6-1 Pac-10) defeated Washington 6-0. Caitlin Benyi went 3-for-4 with two RBI and sophomore pitcher Anjelica Selden struck out six in the game.
In the fifth, the Bruins put together a two-run rally, opening with a single to left by Andrea Duran. After Duran stole second and was sacrificed to third by Krista Colburn, and scored on an RBI single to right by Caitlin Benyi, making the score 2-0 in UCLA's favor. Emily Zaplatosch then reached on a fielders choice with Benyi out at second base. Walks to Legaspi and Lisa Dodd loaded the bases for Whitney Holum, who connected on a two-RBI single to centerfield, bringing the score to 5-0.
An unearned run in the sixth inning on an RBI double by Benyi upped the Bruin lead to 6-0. Sophomore Anjelica Selden finished with six strikeouts in the four-hit shutout.
The Bruins and Huskies return to action on Saturday afternoon for a scheduled 2 pm first pitch.
