Arizona's Taryne Mowatt Named Pac-10 Softball Pitcher of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - ARIZONA sophomore Taryne Mowatt has been named the Pac-10 Softball Player of the Week for Apr. 11-17, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
The Corona, Calif. native helped Arizona defeat in-state rival ASU on Saturday. She had two of Arizona's six hits and two of the three runs, as she homered and went 2-for-3 on the night. Over the weekend, she batted .429 (3-for-7) and slugged .857.
Mowatt also pitched her first career Pac-10 shutout in the game, defeating Arizona State 3-0. She struck out 11 and gave up just three hits and one walk. Pitching to just three batters over the minimum, Mowatt did not allow a Sun Devil to get past first base all game.
The Wildcats (3-4, 32-7), travel to the Bay Area this weekend for games against California and Stanford.
This is Mowatt's first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and Arizona's 101st weekly honor all-time. Mowatt has also won two Pitcher of the Week awards this season, and is the first player since 2002 to win both player and pitcher of the week honors. Amanda Freed from UCLA received Player of the Week honors on Feb. 18, 2002 and the Pitcher of the Week award on Mar. 4, 2002.
