Cougar Tennis Prepares for Final Matches

This Week - The Washington State women's tennis team (13-11, 0-6 Pacific-10 Conference) prepares for its final two matches of the year...WSU will host archrival Washington, Friday, April 21 at 1:30 p.m. at Pullman, Wash...WSU travels to Eugene, Ore., to wrap its dual and Pac-10 match season against conference rival Ducks, Sunday April 23 at noon.
This Week's Opponents - Washington (3-13, 0-7 Pac-10) enters Friday's match coming off a major upset over 58th nationally-ranked Sacramento State, 4-3...Oregon (12-9, 1-6 Pac-10) hosts WSU and has a national ranking of 48th...Oregon is led by its ace Dominika Dieskova, ranked 40th...both teams defeated the Cougars in the first first season meeting, but both matches did not count in the Pac-10 records.
Cougar Success - WSU finds itself in the Intercollegiate Tennis Rankings nationally-ranked 70th...Cougars have not been in the rankings this late in the season since 2003...sophomore Ekaterina Burduli moved up three spots in the rankings to No. 90...Burduli is tied with Marjolein van de Ven in the seventh spot in the single season Top-10 list at WSU with 23 wins.
Last Week - WSU defeated No. 61 South Alabama, 4-2 Saturday, April 15...victory was the third defeat of a ranked opponent for WSU and head coach Lisa Hart and second upset of a higher ranked opponent this season...under Hart's three-year tenure the Cougars have eight wins over ranked opponents...six of the wins came when either WSU was not ranked or ranked lower then the opponent it defeated.
