No. 7/8 Cal Falls at No. 8/9 Oregon State, 4-2

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The No. 7/8 California softball team fell 4-2 at No. 8/9 Oregon State, Friday. The Golden Bears (38-9, 6-6 Pac-10) scored twice in the third inning on consecutive RBI singles by seniors Haley Woods and Emily Friedman.

In the third, junior Alex Sutton doubled to right center and then scored on Woods' single. Woods then scored on Friedman's hit. The Beavers (36-7, 8-4) had taken a 1-0 in the bottom of the first when Cambria Miranda led off the inning with a home run. Miranda scored again in the third after reaching base on an error, bringing the score to 2-2. Oregon State then scored one run in the fifth and one in the sixth for the 4-2 win.

Freshman Lauren Frankiewicz started the game, throwing the first 3.1 innings. Senior Kristina Thorson entered the game in the third inning and threw 2.2 innings.

Cal takes on Oregon in Eugene, Ore., Saturday and Sunday. The first game Saturday - at noon - will be a continuation of a rain-postponed contest from April 7 in Berkeley. The game originally scheduled for Saturday will follow at 2:30 p.m. The Bears and Ducks face off for a third time this season, Sunday, at 1 p.m.
