No. 5/6 Stanford Comes From Behind To Down No. 8/9 Oregon State, 7-5

Corvallis, Ore. - No. 5/6 Stanford Softball (34-11, 7-7) overcame a three-run deficit today to take down the Beavers (36-8, 8-5), 7-5. After taking an early lead in the first inning off of a home run by senior outfielder Catalina Morris, the Cardinal fell behind Oregon State after the Beavers' Lisa Allen hit a grand slam in the bottom of the first inning. The Cardinal scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning to power past the Beavers. Stanford is now 2-0 against Oregon State this year.
In the Cardinal's first at-bat, Morris homered over the left field fence, her seventh home run of the season. Stanford led, 1-0, after one half inning.
Mia Longfellow knocked a double to the center field fence to get on base for the Beavers in the bottom of the first inning. Adrienne Alo and DeAnn Young were hit by pitches to load the bases. Allen stepped up and hit a grand slam over the left field fence, putting the Beavers up, 4-0. Sophomore pitcher Becky McCullough struck out her third batter of the inning to put the Cardinal up to bat.
Sophomore infielder Erin Howe hit a single to left field to open the second inning and later stole second base. Sophomore infielder Tricia Aggabao was walked on base, but the inning ended runless for the Cardinal. McCullough struck out two more batters in the bottom of the second to move into the third inning.
In the top of the third, junior outfielder Jackie Rinehart hit a single to left field to get on base and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Senior infielder Lauren Lappin slammed a home run down the left line to score two runs for the Cardinal, her first home run of the season. The Beavers continued to lead midway through the third inning, 4-3.
The Beavers' Ta'Tyana McElroy entered the game to pitch in the fourth inning and Morris was hit by a pitch to get on base. Morris stole second base but the Cardinal hitters couldn't bring her home. In the bottom of the fifth, Longfellow hit another home run for Oregon State, moving the Beavers ahead, 5-3.
Howe hit a double to left field to start the Cardinal hitting in the sixth inning. Aggabao followed with a base hit to shortstop, advancing Howe to third base. Sophomore outfielder Anna Beardman then knocked Howe in with a single to left field. Rinehart hit home Aggabao from third base with another single to the shortstop. With two outs, Lappin hit a hard single to left field, bringing home Beardman from third base for the Cardinal lead. On a full count, Coon hit a single past the shortstop to score Rinehart from second base and Stanford moved ahead, 7-5. The Cardinal defense held the Beavers scoreless through two more innings for the win.
In seven innings in the circle, McCullough struck out six batters, allowed five hits and walked none. McCullough improves to 9-4 on the season. OSU starter Brianne McGowan struck out four batters, walked one and allowed five hits in three innings. McElroy recorded the loss for the Beavers with two strikeouts and seven hits, moving to 14-4 on the season.
Lappin was 3-3 at the plate with three RBI and one run, while Rinehart was 3-4 with one RBI and two runs. Howe was also 2-3 with one run scored.
Stanford now leads the series, 2-0, and will face the Beavers tomorrow at 1:00 pm.
