A QUICK LOOK AT ARIZONA: The Wildcats enter this weekend's series with a 21-25 record, 6-9 in Pacific-10 Conference play...Arizona is coming off a series where it took one of three against UNLV, dropping the finale 16-12...The Wildcats are 1-4 in conference series, taking two of three against Stanford and one game against Cal, Oregon State, UCLA and a team the Wildcats are hitting .295, fifth in the Pac-10, although it leads the league in triples with 27...on the mound Arizona pitchers lead the Pac-10 in strikeouts with 422...head coach Andy Lopez is in his fifth season at Arizona, posting a 162-121-1 record he has guided the Wildcats to four straight winning seasons, reaching the postseason in each of the last three years.

WSU-ARIZONA ALL-TIME SERIES: The Wildcats hold a 20-9 advantage in the all-time series against Washington State, including winning the last four...last season Arizona swept a three-game set in Pullman after taking two of three in Tucson during the 2004 season...WSU won the series in 2000 and 2002, with both series taking place in Tucson.

PRINCE NAMED TO DICK HOWSER TROPHY WATCH LIST: freshman Jared Prince has been named to the initial Dick Howser Trophy Watch List, recognizing the top player in collegiate baseball...Prince currently leads the Cougars in hitting with a .426 average, posting team-bests of 44 RBIs and a .606 slugging average. He is also second in hits (66) and doubles (14), and third in home runs (4)...on the mound the righthander has a team-leading 6-1 record with a 3.80 ERA...the Dick Howser Trophy, given in memory of the former Florida State University All-America shortstop and major league player and manager who died of brain cancer in 1987, is regarded by many as college baseball's most prestigious award...criteria for consideration for the trophy include performance on the field, leadership, moral character and courage.

WSU RETURNS TO PAC-10 ACTION: The Cougars return to Pacific-10 Conference action this week with a three-game series at Arizona...WSU completed finals last week then took two of three against Utah Valley their last Pac-10 outing, the Cougars took two of three against USC, giving WSU its second conference series win this season as it opened with two wins at Stanford.

UVSC RECAP: The Cougars improved their nonconference record to 24-9by taking two of three against Utah Valley State...all three games were decided by one run as UVSC captured the opener 6-5 before WSU won the final two, 9-8 in 11 innings Sunday and 6-5 in Monday's finale...freshman Jared Prince led the way at the plate, batting .600 (6-10) with two home runs, six RBIs and six runs scored...In Sunday's extra-inning victory, Paul Gran's RBI single in the 11th scored Prince from second with the Monday's finale, UVSC led 4-1 in the eighth before WSU hit four home runs in the bottom of the inning...Jim Murphy's two-run shot tied it at 4-4, then Jeff Miller and Zach McAngus hit back-to-back solo shots for the win.

COUGS AMONG CONFERENCE LEADERS: Offensively, WSU remains in the top spot in hitting with a .322 batting average...the Cougs lead the conference in runs scored (359), doubles (104), hits (550) and stolen bases (79)...individually, freshman Jared Prince leads the conference in hitting (.436), on-base percentage (.522), is tied for third in RBIs (50) and fourth in slugging percentage (.642) and RBIs (44)...senior Jay Miller (.373) is tied for fourth in the Pac-10 in hitting and leads the conference in hits (75) and doubles (24)...freshman Travis Coulter is tied for seventh in runs scored (44).

McANGUS NAMED PAC-10 PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Senior outfielder Zach McAngus was named the Pacific-10 Conference Baseball Player of the Week for Apr. 25 - May 1...McAngus, from Honolulu, Hawaii, led Washington State from the plate last week, batting a team-best .583 in four games....he went 7-for-12 with two doubles, a home run, two RBI and six runs scored, while slugging at 1.000 with an on-base percentage of a 9-6 win at Gonzaga, McAngus went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs Friday's opener vs. USC, he went 1-for-3, before going 3-for-4 Saturday with a double, home run, two RBI and three runs scored in a 13-7 win...McAngus finished the series by going 1-for-2 Sunday while scoring a run to help the Cougars defeat the Trojans, 6-3. For the conference series, he hit .556 (5-for-9) and added a stolen base.

COUGAR NOTES: WSU continues to lead the Pacific-10 Conference in batting ...the Cougs are hitting .322 for the season, ahead of ASU (.319) and USC (.315)... with their two one-run wins last weekend, the Cougars improve to 7-3 in one-runs games for the season...freshman Travis Coulter has a 13-game hitting streak and has hit safely in 26 of his last 29, batting .356 (42-118) in that span...Coulter has moved into a tie for seventh in the Pac-10 in runs scored (44)...catcher Mike Gilbert found hit stroke against Northern the opener the junior went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs...he finished the series hitting .625...sophomore Paul Gran went 1-for-5 in Sunday's game against UVSC, but the hit drove home Jared Prince with two outs in the 11th with the winning run in a 9-8 win over the Wolverines....Gran has hit safely in 24 of his last 27 games...freshman Ross Humes worked three innings of hitless relief, including two strikeouts, against USC, his longest Pac-10 outing this season...he followed that with a 1-2-3 inning against UVSC... junior pitcher Nick Ison, who had worked just 1.0 innings during Pac-10 play, will not pitch again this season due to a sore shoulder... freshman Jeremy Johnson worked 1.2 innings of scoreless relief against USC (4/29), his longest outing of the season...Johnson had not pitched this season until the UCLA series due to a sore arm...junior Ryan Krauser missed the three-game series against UVSC due to the flu... freshman Greg Lagreid had four hits last week, two against Gonzaga and hits in each of the last two USC contests...those hits raised his average from .147 to .184, the highest it has been since Feb. 23...since breaking out of his 0-for-20 slump against Northern Colorado, senior Zach McAngus has been on a tear, hitting .400 (14-35) with 12 runs scored...his home run against UVSC, the last of four for WSU in a five-run 8th inning, proved to be the game-winner...senior Jay Miller has hit safely in each of his last five games, batting .333 (7-21) in that stretch...he has also scored six runs over that stretch...junior Jeff Miller hit his seventh home run of the season against UVSC, tied for the team lead with Jim Murphy...sophomore Jim Murphy is batting .345 in Pac-10 play, second on the team...Murphy currently has a six-game hitting streak, hitting .375 (9-24) in that span...freshman Jared Prince is tied with Travis Coulter for the team's longest current hitting streak at 13 games...Prince is the only Pac-10 player ranked in the Top 10 in both hitting (1st) and pitching victories (T-6)...he also saw his streak of home runs in three straight games in the finale against UVSC...sophomore Travis Webb is tied for third on the Cougars' single-season saves list with seven...Webb picked up two saves during the USC series and needs three more to tie Reed Rainey (1984) for the top spot.

WSU IN PAC-10 PITCHING: The Cougar pitching staff remains fourth in the Pac-10 in team ERA following the latest release of conference statistics...WSU has a staff ERA of 4.23, trailing Oregon State (3.36), Cal (3.69) and UCLA (3.84) a squad the Cougars are first in fewest walks allowed (137) and fewest triples allowed (2)...freshman Jared Prince is tied for sixth in wins (6) while sophomore Travis Webb, is tied for third in saves (7) and games finished (17).

COUGARS SET HITS RECORD IN OPENER AT NORTHERN COLORADO: In Game One of the Northern Colorado series (4/21), WSU pounded out a school-record 26 hits against the Bears, eclipsing the previous mark of 25 set twice during the 1999 season in back-to-back games against New Mexico State, Feb. 14-15...Mike Gilbert had four hits in the contest while Ryan Krauser, Jay Miller, Paul Gran and Jared Prince each had three...additionally, the Cougars set a season-high with 22 runs, while tying the season mark with six doubles.

NOTHING BUT GLOVE: After finishing eighth last season with a .957 fielding percentage, WSU is in the top spot in conference play with a .978 percentage during Pac-10 action this season...the Cougars have made 13 errors in their 600 total chances during 15 conference games.
