USC Men's Golf Team Tied For 11th At NCAA East Regional

The No. 19 ranked USC men's golf team finished the first day of competition in the 2006 NCAA East Regional today (May 18) at the Lake Nona G.C. in Orlando, Fla. tied for 11th place in the team standings with a total of 298 (+10).

Senior Taylor Wood leads the Trojans and is tied for sixth in the individual competition with a two-under 70 first round total. Wood was even on the first nine with two birdies and two bogey and finished the back nine two under with two birdies and seven pars. North Carolina's Jonathan Jackson leads in the individual competition with a first round 66 (-6).

USC junior Joshua Wooding finished the day tied for 42nd with a 74 (+2). Trojan seniors Bradley Shaw and Tyler Ley and junior Jordan Nasser all finished the first round tied for 81st with a 77 (+5).

The Trojan squad is tied at 10-over with Western Illinois and No. 11 Georgia State, all one stroke behind 10th-place Jacksonville. The top 10 teams from this 27-team regional will join the top 10 finishers from the NCAA West and Central Regionals (being played simultaneously) to comprise the 30-team NCAA final championship field, set for May 31-June 3 at Sunriver, Ore.

No. 1 Georgia leads the first round with a first-day total of 284 (-4). USC was one of six teams to finish the day with all five golfers at five strokes over par or less.

The second round of the NCAA East Regional will be held tomorrow and the final round is scheduled to be completed on Saturday. USC is seeking its third straight trip to the NCAA Tournament final field.
