Lincecum Breaks Wins Record With 5-3 Victory At Pacific
May 19, 2006
STOCKTON, Calif. - Tim Lincecum broke the Huskies' single-season wins record with his 12th victory of the year Friday as the Washington baseball team beat Pacific, 5-3, in the first game of a three-game non-conference series at Klein Family Field.
Lincecum (12-3) broke the record of 11 wins, set first by Jake Kringen in 1997 and tied by Shawn Kohn in 2002. Lincecum worked seven innings, allowing one run on four hits and five walks while striking out 11. Sophomore Elliott Cribby threw the final two innings to pick up his 10th save for the Huskies (34-23).
The Tigers (26-23) got off to a quick start in the first when leadoff hitter Adam Ching was hit by Lincecum's first pitch. After stealing second and taking third on a flyout, Ching scored when shortstop Anthony Jackson bounced a two-out single up the middle.
Washington took the lead with two runs in the fourth. Anderson drove in Cory Rickard from third with a groundout and then Michael Burgher chopped a single to left to drive in Boyer, giving the Huskies a 3-1 advantage.
In the fifth, Matt Hague led off with a double and eventually scored from third on a pinch-hit, infield single from freshman Brett Kaluza. In the ninth, senior Nick Burnham, who had come on as a defensive replacement in left in the seventh inning, hit his first homer of the year, a two-out solo shot that increased the lead to 5-1.
In the ninth, Pacific picked up a pair of runs on a single from Justin Baum, but Cribby recorded the final two outs to secure the win.
Game two of the series gets underway Saturday at 3:00 p.m. (note new time) while Sunday's finale has been moved to a noon start. The UW closes out the 2006 regular season May 26-28 vs. Washington State at Husky Ballpark. Live audio of all five remaining games will be available on the 'Dawg Channel' at gohuskies.com.
