No. 7 Stanford Advances To Super Regional With 3-0 Win Over Fresno State

Fresno, Calif. - No. 7 Stanford Softball (42-16, 10-11) took a second win today over No. 22 Fresno State (37-19), 3-0, to claim the Region VI championship. The Cardinal scored three runs in the sixth inning to move past the Bulldogs. Stanford now advances to the Super Regional versus Alabama next weekend.

Senior infielder Lauren Lappin collected the Cardinal's first hit of the game with a triple to center field in the top of the fourth inning. The inning ended without a run for Stanford.

In the top of the sixth inning, sophomore infielder Tricia Aggabao knocked a single to center field to get on base. Sophomore outfielder Anna Beardman advanced Aggabao with a sacrifice bunt. Senior outfielder Catalina Morris hit a single to left field, advancing on an error by the leftfielder with Aggabao scoring on the error. Junior outfielder Jackie Rinehart followed with a bunt to move Morris to third base. Freshman infielder Maddy Coon's single to left field scored Rinehart for the 3-0 Stanford lead.

Stanford held off the Bulldogs through one and a half innings to claim the 3-0 victory.

Senior pitcher Laura Severson walked none and allowed just three hits in seven innings. Fresno State's Robin Mackin struck out five batters and allowed five hits in seven innings.

The Cardinal will now prepare to take on Alabama next weekend in the Super Regional in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
