No. 19 Stanford Women Tied For 12th At NCAA Championships

Colombus, Ohio - The 19th-ranked Stanford women's golf team shot a 301 on the second day of competition at the 2006 NCAA Championships in Colombus, Ohio at the Ohio State Golf Club Scarlet Course. Their two-round score of 608 (307-301) puts them in a tie for 12th overalll heading into tomorrow's compeition. Arizona State leads the field by three strokes with a 586. Duke is second (589) while Southern California is third (591). Rounding out the top five are Tennessee (593), Purdue (596) and Pepperdine (596).

Auburn is seventh (599) followed by Florida (600), LSU (605) and California (606).

Jennifer Tangtiphaiboontana shot a one-under par 71 today and vaulted into a tie for fifth individually to lead the Cardinal. Tangtiphaiboontana had six birdies on the day at holes four, five, eight, 10, 15 and 16.

Mari Chun also made a big move on the leaderboard after carding a one-over par 73 today. Chun is now tied for 62nd with a 153 (80-73). Teammate Lauren Todd is tied for 85th invidividually with a 155 (77-78) while Kelly Husted is tied for 88th (77-79--156) just a stroke behind. Freshman Ki-Shui Liao is tied for 110th with a 160 (79-81) heading into the third round of play.

Eileen Vargas of Pepperdine remained the individual leader with a 1-under 71 in the morning wave. Vargas is five under at the midway point of the 72-hole event. She is the only player to shoot below par twice in the tournament to date.

Weather was favorable for the second-consecutive day with cool morning temperatures with an afternoon high in the 70s. Skies were clear throughout the day with bright sunshine and light winds.

Round three is scheduled for 8 a.m. Thursday with the leaders scheduled to tee off in the afternoon wave.

Ohio State is the host of the NCAA women's championships for the fifth time since the first event in 1982. In addition to this season, Scarlet has been the host course for the tournament in 1982, 1986, 1991 and 1997.
