Varsity Eight Set to Compete at NCAA Championships

The UCLA women's rowing team's varsity eight will take part in the 2006 NCAA Championships that begin on Friday, May 26th in West Windsor, N.J. After being selected as an at-large bid to the NCAA's, the Bruins have been preparing to take on the best crews in the country.
Competing for the Bruins will be Vanessa Teff (stroke), Patricia Dudziec, Liz Pallas-Jacobs, Elizabeth Herron, Elizabeth Lee, Alexandra Howard, Erin Rice, Erin Haggerty and Kirsten Potenza (cox). Of these nine athletes, three have NCAA Championship experience. Pallas-Jacobs, Lee and Haggerty were part of the V8 that captured 15th place at the 2005 Championships.
UCLA's first race will be on Friday at 8:30 am. The Bruins will be in heat three in the preliminary round alongside Boston University, Washington State University, Tennessee and California. The varsity eight repechage will take place at 4:00 pm that same day.
Depending on how the Bruins perform on the first day of competition, they may advance to the semifinals held on Saturday morning.
