Huskies Tabbed 18th In Final Team Rankings
May 26, 2006
SEATTLE -- The Washington men's tennis team was tabbed 18th in the final FILA Intercollegiate Tennis Association Rankings, released Friday.
The Huskies finished the season with a 20-6 overall record and advanced as far as the NCAA Sweet 16 for the fifth time in the last six years. UW's final rank of 18th is the fifth highest in school history, the Washington record being a No. 12 billing in 2003. The Huskies finished 14th in 2005 and 17th in 2001 and 1998.
Over the course of the dual season, only one of the Huskies' six losses came to a team ranked outside of the final Top-10 - No. 21 California. And for good measure, UW tallied three wins against final Top-15 opponents including No. 8 Virginia, No. 7 UCLA and No. 14 Virginia Commonwealth.
UW was ranked as high as 10th this season, that billing coming after its 4-1 upset over then-No. 11 Virginia in the opening round of the National Team Indoor Championships in February.
