Simpson Leads Four Huskies On Pac-10 All-Academic Team

WALNUT CREEK, CALIF. -- Led by first-team selection Tara Simpson, four Washington women's tennis players were named to the Pac-10 All-Academic Team conference commissioner Tom Hansen announced, Friday. Dinka Hadzic, Allison Rainey and Stephanie Svanfeldt all received second-team acclaim.
Simpson, a sophomore from Vancouver, B.C., was the only underclassman on a first-team dominated by juniors and seniors. Simpson has a 3.64 cumulative grade point average and is majoring in biochemistry. It is her first career Pac-10 All-Academic honor.
Hadzic, a senior from Split, Croatia, was named to the Pac-10 All-Academic team for the third time in her career after second-team honors as a junior and honorable mention honors as a sophomore. Hadzic has a 3.39 grade point average and is majoring in communication. Mercer Island product Rainey was a first-time honoree with a 3.47 grade point average and a double major of political science and communication.
The third Husky named to the second-team was Svanfeldt, a senior from Belvedere, Calif. Svanfeldt has 3.26 grade point average and is majoring in political science. She was selected to the Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention team as a junior.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average, be a starter or significant contributor and have completed at least one academic year at their current institution.
