Three Cougars Named To Pacific-10 Baseball All-Academic Teams

PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State pitchers Steve Kost and Jayson Miller earned first team honors while pitcher Nick Cebula was named to the second team as Pacific-10 Conference Commissioner Tom Hansen announced the conference all-academic baseball honors.

Kost, an accounting major, boasts a 3.62 GPA. The sophomore lefthander from Bellevue, Wash., has appeared in 20 games this season, posting a 1-1 record with a 3.06 ERA. He began the season by working 10 and 1/3 innings without allowing an earned run. He picked up his only save of the season by working three innings of scoreless relief as Washington State defeated then-No. 14 Arizona State, 6-1. He also had two perfect relief efforts against California, retiring all three men he faced.

Miller, a sophomore from Richland, Wash, carries a 3.68 GPA while majoring in accounting. This season the lefthander has registered a 2-0 record with a 4.04 ERA, picking up wins against Gonzaga and at Stanford. In the Stanford victory he worked four innings, allowing one run on two hits with three strikeouts. His best series this season came at home against USC, where in two outings he worked five scoreless innings, allowing just three hits with five strikeouts and no walks.

Cebula, a sophomore general studies major from Tacoma, Wash., carries a 3.08 GPA. The right handed pitcher has posted a 1-0 record with two saves this season. He picked up his first save in a 7-6 victory over San Francisco as he went worked a scoreless one and 2/3 innings while his one and 1/3 innings of one-hit relief in the conference opener at Stanford preserved a 7-1 Cougar win. That marked the first time WSU had defeated the Cardinal since the 1978 season, a span of 23 games.

The Cougars conclude their Pac-10 season with a three-game series at Washington beginning Friday at 6:30 p.m.
