Two More Trojans Selected In Day One Of 2006 MLB Draft

LOS ANGELES -- After the first-round selection Tuesday of junior pitcher Ian Kennedy by the New York Yankees, two other Trojans were picked in the first day of the 2006 Major League Baseball draft. Junior outfielder Cyle Hankerd (Covina HS/South Hills HS) was selected in the third round (87th overall) while senior infielder Blake Sharpe (Moorpark/Moorpark HS/L.A. Pierce College) was selected in the 16th round (477th overall), both by the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Hankerd led the Trojans this season in the Triple Crown categories, batting .383 (88-for-230) with 10 home runs and 55 RBI. He finished his three-year career at USC with a .340 average with 12 home runs and 123 RBI.
Sharpe batted a career-high .323 (75-for-232) with 32 RBI and five stolen bases. He batted .312 in his three-year career for the Trojans with seven home runs, 96 RBI and 23 stolen bases.
