Neeper Named To ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Third Team

USC's distance runner Kate Neeper today (June 22) was named to ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-America Third Team for track and field/cross country.

The senior from Parker, Colo. had a double major at USC in International Relations and Spanish and carried a 3.98 grade point average. Neeper also earned the distinction as the USC Class of 2006 co-salutatorian and as a Pac-10 All-Academic selection.

Neeper ran both track and field and cross country while at USC, serving as the cross country team captain her senior year. She placed fifth at the 2004 Pac-10 Championships in the 10000m run with a time of 37:30.34 and in 2003 set the USC freshman record in the 5000m run with a time of 17:55.

Following graduation, Neeper went to Ecuador for an internship with the U.S. State Department. This coming fall, she will begin graduate work in international affairs at George Washington University, with an eventual goal to work in Latin American foreign policy, with a focus on Mexico or Cuba.
