July 12, 2006

UCLA junior Daniel Im advanced to the second round of the U.S. Amateur Publinks Championship Wednesday at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash.

Im was never behind in his match with Chrales Soule of Longmont, Colo. He went up by one after Soule bogeyed the second hole, and took a 2-up lead with a birdie at the third. After a bogey at the eighth cut Im's lead to one, he got it back when Soule bogeyed the next hole. The 2-up lead stood until Im carded birdies at the 14th and 15th holes to win 4 & 3.

On Thursday (July 13), Im meets Lindsay Renolds of Canada in the round of 32.

Sophomore Lucas Lee fell 2-up to Anthony Kim of Traverse City, Mich. in a match in which he never led. After squaring the score on the 11th hole with a birdie, Lee matched Kim's scores for two holes until Kim birdied the par-5 14th. Kim went 2-up when Lee double-bogeyed the par-3 16th. The 17th was halved and Kim won 2 & 1.
