UCLA's Recruiting Class Ranked No. 1 By College Soccer News

July 26, 2006

The UCLA men's soccer recruiting class of 2006 has been ranked No. 1 in the nation by College Soccer News. This is the third time in the last four years that UCLA has had the No. 1 recruiting class. The other top-ranked classes were in 2003 and 2004.

The 2006 incoming class consists of eight former All-Americans and seven former or current U.S. Youth National Team members. Amongst the National Team members are current U-20 players Tony Beltran and Chance Myers, U-18 team members Brian Perk and Michael Stephens, and former U-17 starter Kyle Nakazawa. Patrick Rickards (U-17 residency) and Ryan White (formerly on the U-16 team) also have National Team experience. All seven were also All-Americans, along with James Jaramillo. Rounding out the class are 2006 CIF Division I Offensive Player of the Year Andrew Sindherhoff, All-CIF performers Danny Suits and Trevor Hunter, and Texas standout Robert Georgiefski.

'It is nice to be bestowed the No. 1 recruiting class for the third time in the last four years,' said UCLA head coach Jorge Salcedo. 'Players from our other top recruiting classes have gone on to have great success at both the collegiate and professional levels. I expect this year's class to follow in their footsteps as well.'

In addition, College Soccer News has ranked UCLA No. 8 in its pre-season rankings. The Bruins will face nine of the Top 30 teams, including three teams in the Top 10 during the first three weeks of the season (No. 1 Maryland, No. 6 Virginia, No. 9 New Mexico).
