Prugh Moves Into Quarterfinals of U.S. Amateur

Chaska, Minn. - Washington men's golfer Alex Prugh cruised to a third straight match play victory today in the U.S. Amateur Championship held at the Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn.

Prugh built a 6-up lead through 12 holes and cruised to a 7 and 5 victory over Mark Strickland. Blistering the front nine with three birdies and no bogeys, Prugh was never threatened, winning seven and squaring six of the match's 13 holes.

Seventh-seeded Prugh faces Wake Forest junior Webb Simpson at 1:45 p.m. CDT today. Simpson, the 15 seed, defeated Roberto Castro 2 and 1 today to qualify.

The U.S. Amateur will have 10 hours of national coverage on The Golf Channel and NBC over the last five days of the Championship.
