Cal Beats FIU, 3-0, in SMU Tourney

RICHARDSON, Texas - The 11th-ranked California men's soccer team defeated Florida International, 3-0, on Friday afternoon at the SMU Radisson Invitational at the UT-Dallas Stadium Field. The Golden Bears' record improves to 1-1-1 (0-0-0 Pac-10), while FIU falls to 0-2-0 (0-0-0 Conference USA).

Cal sophomore forward Jacob Wilson, assisted by freshman midfielder Imaan Kerchgani, scored the first goal in the 39th minute. Senior defender Steve Purdy headed in freshman midfielder Hector Jimenez's free kick to give Cal a 2-0 lead in the 75th minute. Sophomore midfielder Pat Marion set up the final goal, by senior forward Matt Holtrust, in the 75th minute.

Cal will play tournament host SMU at 7:30 p.m. CT tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 2.
