Final Stats

Portland, Ore.- The UW men's soccer team (2-0) defeated the Air Force Falcons (0-1-1) tonight in the Nike Portland Invitational, blazing to a 4-1 win. Junior Kevin Forrest logged three goals on the night, bringing his season total in just two games to five goals.

'We had a dream game with a makeshift lineup,' head coach Dean Wurzberger said. 'Kevin Forrest was outstanding as an individual, especially because we really only played with one forward. He is a special player.'

Washington outshot the Falcons by a comfortable 18-5 margin, while UW goalkeeper Cameron Copps-Tilley was rarely tested with one save to Air Force's seven.

Senior Matt Fischer logged his first career goal to open the game's scoring, punching the ball in off a perfect feed from sophomore Raphael Cox in the 30th minute of the game. Air Force came back to score off a corner kick less than eight minutes later, marking the first goal UW has surrendered this season.

Forrest started his scoring tear at 44:13, knocking the ball into the right corner of the net from 10 yards out. His second goal came just 10 minutes later on a four-yard deflection into the right corner, thanks to assists from George John and Bobbak Talebi. A free kick from 25 yards marked Forrest's third goal of the match.

Junior forward Ely Allen, who netted two of the UW's five goals last weekend vs. UC Davis, sat out tonight due to a groin injury.

'Every eligible player on our team got on the field tonight,' Wurzberger said. 'We managed to get a 2-1 lead with a lot of guys playing that hadn't played before and they fought hard. I am really proud of the way the guys played a great game. Everyone played a role and we are looking forward to keeping things going for the matchup with Vermont.'

The Huskies continue play in the Nike Portland Invitational this weekend, taking on the University of Vermont Catamounts at 12 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 3.
