Sept. 8, 2006

STANFORD, Calif. - Eric Ebert scored in the 77th minute to give 17th-ranked California a 1-0 non-conference victory over Cal State Fullerton in the opening game of the Stanford Nike Invitational on Friday evening. Cal's record improves to 2-2-1, while Cal State Fullerton falls to 2-2-0.

The Golden Bears tied the all-time series with the Titans at 6-6-2.

'Cal State Fullerton is a very good team, and they're going to have a great run in the Big West Conference this year,' Cal head coach Kevin Grimes said. 'We played a pretty good game on both sides of the ball and we were happy to come away with the result against a very good team.'

Ebert, a senior midfielder, scored off a cross from sophomore forward Jacob Wilson for the Bears, who outshot the Titans, 15-4, in the game. The goal was Ebert's first of the season and the assist was Wilson's first of his career.

Cal plays its second and final game of the Stanford Nike Invitational against San Jose State at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 10, at Spartan Stadium.
