No. 2 ASU Women's Golf Team in First Place in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The No. 2 ranked Arizona State women's golf team is in first place after the first two rounds of play at the 28th annual Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational. The Sun Devils shot a nine-under 575 (294-281) to finish the day eight strokes ahead of second-place South Carolina, which shot a 1-under 583 (295-288).
Texas A&M (two-round total of 585), which was tied for third with the Sun Devils after the first round of play, maintained its spot after shooting a one-under 291 in the second round. UNLV (589), which was tied for the lead after the first round, slipped to fourth place after a six-over 298 in the second round. Rounding out the top five of the 17-team tournament is Brigham Young (592).
'I'm really proud of the way the team came out and performed today,' said ASU head coach Melissa Luellen. 'Obviously 11-under [in the second round] was a fantastic round.
'It's great to be leading by eight shots, but there is still another full day tomorrow and anything can happen in team golf. As well as we played today I know that we still have better golf ahead of us.'
Individually, sophomore Jennifer Osborn leads the Sun Devils after shooting a five-under 141 (74-67) to place fifth after the first two rounds. Osborn's day included a career-best six-under 67 in the second round. Freshman Juliana Murcia, who is competing in the first tournament of her Sun Devil career, is tied for seventh after shooting a three-under 143 (73-70). Sophomore Azahara Munoz is in 12th place after carding a one-under 145 (74-71). Freshman Anna Nordqvist, also competing in the first tournament of her ASU career, carded an even-par 146 (73-73) to finish the day tied for 13th place.
Rounding out the Sun Devils finishers for the day are senior Lindsay Anderson, who is tied for 43rd after shooting a six-over 152 (75-77) and junior Brooke Todare, who is tied for 52nd after shooting a 7-over 153 (75-78).
South Carolina's Jenna Pearson is currently leading the tournament after shooting a seven-under 139 (72-67).
Play at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational continues with the third and final round on Tuesday at the 6,069-yard, par-73 UNM Championship Course.
