Sept. 12, 2006
Pullman, Wash. - LANTANA, Tex. - Rain and lighting cut short the first day of the Cobb/Ferrell Mean Green Classic, but the Washington State men's golf team is in contention after one round of play from Lantana Country Club. All five of the Cougars competing have finished the first round in the top 30, good enough to rank WSU number 1 after the first day of play.
Junior Jordan Mason finished his first round atop the leader board tied for first after posting a 4-under 68. The junior from Delta, British Columbia's first round score ties his career low. Senior Chris Collins finished the day in the top five after shooting a 3-under 69 landing him just one stroke out of the lead.
Traveling for the first time this season, freshman Nick Grigsby shot a 2-over 74 (41-33) to finish the day in the top 30, tied up in the 29 position.
Redshirt senior Jordan Madison and senior Kevin Chen had very similar success in their first round in Texas. Each of them shot a 1-over 73 which landed them tied for 22nd. Both of their performances were an important part of the Cougar's team score on the afternoon.
