Men's Soccer Climbs To Fourth In National Coaches' Poll

Sept. 12, 2006

SEATTLE - The Washington men's soccer team climbed to fourth in the latest National Soccer Coaches' Association of America (NSCAA) rankings released Tuesday.

The Huskies moved up from sixth to fourth in the coaches' poll this week after garnering a preseason ranking of No. 25. Washington is off to a 5-0-0 start and has two tournament titles under its belt heading into its own Husky Classic, Sept. 15 and 17. In this week's other polls, UW is ranked eighth by Soccer Times, 10th according to Soccer America and 17th by College Soccer News.

The Huskies are one of five unbeaten or untied teams in the nation thus far, with four of their five wins coming on the road. UW has been led by the high-scoring duo of Kevin Forrest and Ely Allen. The junior forwards have combined to score nine of UW's 14 goals thus far. Six of those goals have come from Forrest, who ranks among the top players in the nation in goals and points (13).

Only three weeks into the season and the Huskies have already garnered numerous individual honors. Both Allen and Forrest have been named Pac-10 Players of the Week, while Forrest was also selected to Soccer America's National Team of the Week on Sept. 7.

Washington's national ranking of fourth is its highest since a No. 4 billing by Soccer America during the 2004 season (Oct. 25 poll). The Huskies were ranked as high as No. 1 in the nation in 1998 by the NSCAA, and have also garnered second-place national rankings in both 1998 (NSCAA) and 2001 (NSCAA and Soccer America).

Washington will next face Northern Illinois (Sept. 15, 7 p.m.) and Marshall (Sept. 17, 1:30 p.m.) in the Husky Classic this weekend at Husky Soccer Field.

Tickets for all Husky home matches can be purchased either online at or by calling the Husky Ticket Office at 206-543-2200. Tickets may also be purchased at the field on game day. Individual tickets prices are $5 for adults, $3 for children/seniors and $2 for groups of 15 or more purchased in advance.
