Bob Peterson Named Assistant Women's Gymnastics Coach

Sept. 14, 2006

Bob Peterson has been hired as an assistant coach for the Arizona State women's gymnastics team, according to an announcement by ASU head coach John Spini on Thursday.

Peterson, who initially joined the Sun Devils on an interim basis prior to the 2006 season, will be primarily responsible for coaching the uneven bars and vault events. Last season, the Sun Devils concluded the regular season ranked No. 8 in vault and No. 12 in uneven bars. Former Sun Devil Ashley Kelly was an All-American and the NCAA runner-up on bars in 2006.

'Bob is the perfect fit for our team,' says Spini, 'It is nice having someone who has been a part of the team and believes in our philosophy. He is an awesome coach.'

Peterson brings over 30 years of coaching experience to the Sun Devil women's gymnastics program. He has served as a consultant and assistant coach at Desert Lights Gymnastics in Chandler, Ariz., as well as owning and operating the American Gymnastics Center in Chandler, Ariz.

During his tenure at the American Gymnastics Center, Peterson coached an Elite National Champion, four National Team Members and 20 State Champion Teams. He also coached former Sun Devil All-American and current assistant coach Maggie (Germaine) Ethier. He was the 1992 U.S. Team Coach in the Argentina Cup, he received the 1991 National Elite Rookie Coach of the Year Award and from 1986-1988 served as President of the Arizona Women's Gymnastics Association.
