No. 20 Bears Hold Off Dartmouth, 2-1, in adidas Cal Legacy Classic

BERKELEY - Javier Ayala-Hil scored in the 62nd minute to give 20th-ranked California a 2-1 victory over Dartmouth on the first day of the 10th annual adidas Cal Legacy Classic on Friday afternoon at Edwards Stadium.

The Golden Bears' record improves to 4-2-1, while the Big Green's record falls to 1-2-2.

Senior midfielder Nick Hatzke had given Cal a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute, knocking in a cross from freshman midfielder Hector Jimenez.

After Dartmouth midfielder Mike Ordonez scored off a Daniel Keat assist in the 61st minute, Cal junior midfielder Luke Sassano found Ayala-Hil with a nice long ball, which Ayala-Hil slotted past goalkeeper Rowan Anders.

In the first game of the day, Stanford beat Sacramento State, 2-0, on goals by Michael Strickland in the 10th minute and by Ryan Oblak in the 22nd minute.

On Sunday, Sept. 17, Stanford plays Dartmouth at 12 p.m. and Cal plays Sacramento State at 2:30 p.m. on the final day of the adidas Cal Legacy Classic at Edwards Stadium.
