Peter Wright Tennis Tour Begins This Sunday

Sept. 15, 2006

BERKELEY - The first of four tournaments in the Peter Wright Tennis Tour will take place this Sunday at the Hellman Tennis Center. Draws will be limited due to court availability. Play will begin shortly after 9 a.m., when registration closes for that day.

Wayne Ferreira, who will be entering his eighth season as Cal's assistant coach, will be participating in the tournament. Ferreira was a 14-year ATP Tour veteran. He finished the 1995 and 1996 seasons ranked in the top 10 in the world. Since turning pro in 1989, he has won 20 titles.

The tour will feature juniors, college players and men's open players competing against one another in a one-day, one-set singles and doubles tournament.

Cal head coach Peter Wright said he created the Tour to help bring different kinds of players together in a unique one day/one set format.

The other three tour dates are: Oct. 15, Oct. 29 and Nov. 5.
