Oct. 2, 2006
TULSA, OKLA. -- The USC men's tennis team pushed a pair of singles players through to the next round of elite competition at the Polo Ralph Lauren All-America Tennis Championships. Junior Kaes Van't Hof and newcomer Jason McNaughton both dropped their first-round opponents in the first qualifying round at the tournament, held in Tulsa, Okla., this week.
Van't Hof -- coming off a strong sophomore season for the Trojans -- wasted little time taking control in his junior campaign. He toppled Wake Forest's Andrew Hamar 6-4, 6-3 to move into Tuesday's second round. There, Van't Hof will face NC State's William Noblitt.
Also charging through his opening competition was McNaughton, who overcame a slow start against Auburn's Alex Schweizer to earn his trip to the next round. McNaughton posted a hard-fought 3-6, 6-0, 7-5 victory, and the USC freshman will face Duke's David Goulet on Tuesday.
The pair is also teaming up in the doubles competition in Tulsa. The duo will face Michgan State's Adam Monich/Nick Rinks on Tuesday for their first-round doubles match.
