CHANGING OFFENSIVE LINE RESPONDS TO CHALLENGE: After leading the Pac-10 in fewest sacks allowed last season, the 2006 Cougar offensive line has not missed a beat, allowing just two sacks over the last four games. Even more impressive than the low numbers of sacks is the way the line is continuing to protect quarterback Alex Brink with a rotating line. In 2005 the Cougars used one starting lineup the entire season while this season injuries have forced WSU to use three different lineups through the first five games. Last week against USC, the Cougars did not allow a sack.
FSN NORTHWEST TO TELEVISE WSU AT OREGON STATE: FSN Northwest has announced it will televise the WSU-OSU game live at 4 p.m., Oct. 7. Saturday's game marks the second time this season the Cougars have appeared on FSN Northwest, the first coming Sept. 9 against Idaho.
BRUCE CONTINUES TO LEAD NATION IN SACKS: WSU senior defensive end Mkristo Bruce continues to lead all Division I-A players in sacks following the latest release by the NCAA. Bruce garnered one sack last Saturday against USC, giving him eight for the season, an average of 1.60 per game.
COUGARS DISPLAY NEW UNIFORMS AGAINST USC: Prior to last Saturday's game against USC, WSU players found new uniforms in each locker. Designed by Russell Athletic, the Xtreme Compression (XC) jersey includes compression fit material that is difficult to grab along with Dri-Power technology to keep moisture away from the body. The uniforms featured a crimson front and back with Cougars across the front in white letters and gray along the shoulder pad area.
WSU-OSU SERIES: WSU leads the all-time series by a 46-41-3 margin, although the Beavers have won the past two, both in Corvallis. The last Cougar road victory in the series occurred Oct. 12, 1996, when WSU posted a 24-3 win. Overall, WSU is 19-21 when playing in Corvallis. Last season WSU entered the OSU game riding a three-game winning streak to start the season and led 30-16 at halftime before OSU rallied for three fourth-quarter touchdowns and a 44-33 win.
