SEATTLE-- No. 5 Washington (13-3, 3-2 Pac-10) defeated Oregon (11-3, 1-3 Pac-10) 3-1 Friday night in front of 2,015 fans at Bank of America Arena as the Huskies won their record 23rd consecutive home match dating back to the 2004 season. Washington did drop a game to the Ducks, snapping a nine match 3-0 win streak at home and marking the first game dropped to Oregon in the Jim McLaughlin era. Game scores were 26-30, 30-22, 30-23, 30-27.
Oregon out-hit Washington (.230-.222) and held advantages in kills (64-61) and blocks (8-6) but the Huskies' service game and defense made the difference. UW tallied nine aces vs. seven errors, while the Ducks collected four aces and made 16 service errors. Washington also out dug Oregon 76-66.
Junior All-American Christal Morrison paced the Huskies with 21 kills and recorded 12 digs for her sixth double-double of the season and fourth in a row. Stevie Mussie also packed a punch for the Dawgs, collecting 14 kills and 14 digs for her third straight double-double and fifth overall.
Six different Huskies posted aces, including freshman Megan McAfee who came up big with a pair of aces off the bench late in the match.
Sophomore Jill Collymore also came off the bench in game four to provide the spark Washington needed to overcome an 18-19 deficet. Collymore came in to serve and helped UW reel off the next six points, including a service ace, to take the 24-19 lead and race to the eventual 30-27 victory.
The Huskies return to action Saturday night when they host Oregon State at 7 p.m.
