USC In 8th After First Day Of Edean Ihlanfeldt
Oct. 9, 2006
Junior Paola Moreno and senior Catalina Marin both finished with 4-over 76s to lead the No. 19 USC women's golf team on the first day of the 2006 Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at the Sahalee C.C. in Redmond, Wash., on Monday (Oct. 9).
The Women of Troy posted a combined 310 (+22), good for eighth. Arizona State leads the 15-team field (which includes nine Pac-10 teams) with a 299, leaving the tournament very much up for grabs.
Andrea Gaston, in her 11th season as head coach, employed a different lineup than the one she used in USC's first two events.
In addition to Moreno and Marin, and freshman Caroline Kim, who each are playing in their third tourney of the season, junior Stephanie Hickerson and sophomore Shelcie Takenouchi made their debuts today. Hickerson and Takenouchi played in place of junior Dewi-Claire Schreefel and senior Veronica Felibert, who are preparing for the 2006 World Amateur Team Championships and were unable to attend the event in Washington because of scheduling issues.
Marin and Moreno's 76s both included 1-over back nines, while Takenouchi turned in a 78 (+6), which featured a 2-over on the front nine.
Kim finished with an 80 (+8) while Hickerson turned in an 82 (+10).
The Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational continues Tuesday and Wednesday (Oct. 10-11).
