SEATTLE -- Head coach June Daugherty, assistant coach Kellie Lewis-Jay and select members of the Washington women's basketball team will take part in the grand opening celebration of the Springwood Youth Center on Friday, Oct. 13, at 11:30 a.m. in Kent, Wash.
Daugherty and the Huskies will join former Seattle Supersonic James Donaldson, Kent Mayor Suzette Cook and U.S. Representative Dave Reichert in celebrating the opening of the new youth center, a $3.4 million, two-story, 10,800 square-foot facility that features a gymnasium, computer lab, homework and art classrooms, kitchen and a games room. The center will serve youth in the Kent and Covington communities.
The Youth Center is the second of two facilities built by Building Better Futures, a nonprofit organization comprised of Kent Youth and Family Services, King County Housing Authority, the Center for Career Alternatives and the Puget Sound Educational Service District. The first building - the Kent Family Center - was completed in May 2004.
