Softball Sweeps Fall Tournament

TEMPE, Ariz. - The 2006-2007 Sun Devil Softball squad pushed their fall record to 4-0 as they kicked off their second fall tournament of the year, taking on Central Arizona Community College and the Hum Babe Cats Thursday afternoon at ASU's Farrington Stadium. The Devils outscored their opponents 26-1 taking a 11-0 win over Central Arizona and a 15-1 win over the Hum Babe Cats.

Game one matched up ASU against Central Arizona, with freshman, Megan Elliott taking to the mound to strikeout six and shut out the Vaqueras. On offense, the Devils brought in 11 runs with help from back-to-back home runs in the fourth from Kristen Miller and Mindy Cowles.

Game two of the tourney saw Central Arizona just barely edge the Hum Babe Cats 2-1 before rolling into game three where ASU took the field again to face off against the Cats.

Katie Burkhart took the mound for ASU where she tallied seven strikeouts and only one hit for the Vaqueras only run in the fifth inning. On offense the Sun Devils were on fire with 18 hits by 10 different Devils.

Kaitlin Cochran led the offense with back-to-back home runs in the third and fourth inning, with Bianca Cruz behind her going 3-5 with two runs scored.

The Sun Devils return to action next weekend, Oct. 20-22 as they host the Phoenix College Tournament against Phoenix College, Palomar College, Eastern Arizona College, Pima College, Scottsdale Community College and Central Arizona College.
