Volleyball Sweeps Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The ASU volleyball team entered Friday night's match in Corvallis needing a win over the Beavers to snap their five match losing streak. The Devils delivered just that, sweeping Oregon State 3-0 at Gill Coliseum to improve to 10-8 on the year, 2-5 in Pac-10 play.

Nina Reeves led the Sun Devil offense, recording 13 kills while hitting .200 to push the Devils to the win. Sydney Donahue again led the team in digs, totaling 27 on the evening.

The Beavers were able to keep game one close, as they were able to three times tie the score. Arizona State would never relinquish the lead however, eventually taking game one 30-26. Game two was another tight one, as the Sun Devils fought through 14 ties and six lead changes to take the game 30-27. The Sun Devils came out hot in game three, as they never gave up the lead on their way to a 30-27 win and the 3-0 sweep.

Marina Mercer shined for the Devils, scoring three service aces to go along with her match high 43 assists. ASU hit .175 for the match, and forced 24 Beaver attack errors to pick up the victory.

Arizona State will now return home to host defending national champion Washington on Thursday night at Washington State on Friday night. Both matches will begin at 7 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena.
