WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Six-time defending Conference champion STANFORD has been voted as the favorite to win this year's Pac-10 women's basketball title, according to the Pac-10 preseason coaches' poll. The Cardinal received nine of 10 first-place votes as ARIZONA STATE (1) received the remaining first-place nod.

Ending the season with a NCAA second round appearance, the Sun Devils tallied 70 points to place second. USC was tabbed to finish third with 63 points, followed by CALIFORNIA and WASHINGTON with 53 points for a tie for the fourth-place slot. UCLA grabbed 46 points to place sixth, while ARIZONA took seventh-place with a total of 32 points. The Wildcats were followed by OREGON (22), WASHINGTON STATE (16) and OREGON STATE (14).

Last season, Stanford finished with a 15-3 league record and advanced to the Elite Eight for the third time in as many years, before falling to LSU in the San Antonio Regional final. It was the 19th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance for the Cardinal.

Arizona State finished a close second at 14-4 in league play, while going undefeated at Wells Fargo Arena (15-0) and tying the single-season school record for wins (25). Under 10th-year head coach Charli Turner Thorne, ASU has posted 20 or more wins four times in the last six seasons.

USC advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second-straight season, falling to No. 1 seed Duke in the Bridgeport Regional. The Women of Troy finished the season with a 19-12 overall record and a tie for fourth place in the Conference (11-7).

A record six Pac-10 teams qualified for NCAA postseason Tournament play in 2005-06, as five at-large berths were awarded to the league, in addition to UCLA, which earned the automatic qualification by virtue of a 2006 State Farm Pac-10 Tournament win.

This is the seventh year in a row and seventh time overall that Stanford has been favored by the coaches to win the Conference title since the poll's inception in 1998-99.

Following are the results of the preseason coaches' poll; coaches are not allowed to vote for their own teams (points 9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1, first place votes are in parentheses):
