Trojans Ready For CSUF Cross Country Invitational
Oct. 18, 2006
The USC women's cross country team will be competing at the Cal State Fullerton Invitational at the CSUF Sports Complex in Fullerton, Calif. on Friday, Oct. 20 at 4:30 p.m.
It will be the final regular season meet for USC before the Pac-10 Tournament on Oct. 28 hosted by Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif.
'We are getting better and met our goal at the last meet,' said USC's cross country head coach Tom Walsh. 'I want to finish in the top two teams this week, and I think we can do it.'
Senior Ashley Jensen appears to be rounding into competition shape, having led Troy to a third-place finish in its last meet, the UCSD Triton Invitational in San Diego. She is the only Trojan upper classman to score in a meet this season, but the Trojan youngsters have stepped up and provided coach Walsh with some strong efforts and generated excitement for the future of the cross country program at USC.
The Trojans have been led by a different runner in each meet this season, first freshman Bridget Helgerson at the Cal State Fullerton Season Opener Meet, then freshman Daniela Gergley at the Aztec Invitational, sophomore Christine Greer at the Pepperdine Invitational and then Jensen at UCSD.
'After this meet in Fullerton, I'll make the decision on the seven runners we will take to the Pac-10 tournament, so the Women of Troy should be very energized for this meet,' said Walsh.
With the team the closest they have been to full-strength all season and with the depth they have developed, USC has its hopes set on surprising some people at the conference tournament next weekend at Stanford.
