Huskies Ready for ITA Regional Action

Oct. 20, 2006

STANFORD, Calif -- Husky senior Alex Slovic is to top seed for the singles draw of the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northwest Region Men's Regional Championships. Slovic lost in the championship match last year at the event.

Other Huskies singles players seeded are sophomore Patrik Fishcer (No. 5), senior Daniel Chu (No. 8) and junior Andy Kuharszky (No. 11).

The ITA West Regionals is being hosted by Stanford and runs through October 24 at the Taube Tennis Center. The singles and doubles champion from this event will earn spots in the November 2-5 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships hosted by The Ohio State University at the Racquet Club of Columbus. Only the singles and doubles champions (and not the singles finalists) from the men's ITA Western Region North (Stanford) and South (Pepperdine) Championships are given automatic berths into the ITA National Intercollegiates.

The doubles team of Slovic and Chu are the top-seeded pair, while Kuharszky and freshman Derek Drabble are seeded No. 12.
