Ardies Advances at ITA Regionals

BERKELEY, Calif -- Husky freshman Joyce Ardies (Sao Paulo, Brazil) advanced to the Round of 32 at the Wilson ITA Women's NorthWest Regional in Berkley, Calif., on Friday. The transfer from Tulane University won twice to be the lone representative of the Huskies in the Round of 32 of the ITA Regionals.

Ardies took three sets to beat Oregon's Carmen Seremeta (7-5, 1-6, 6-4) in the first round before dispatching USF's Emma Taylor 7-6 (4), 6-1 in the second round.

Senior Tara Simpson was the only other Husky to win a first round match, taking out Saint Mary's Erin Young in the first round 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, before losing a heart-breaking three-set battle 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (8) to California's Claire Ilcinkas.

In doubles action, Ardies and Simpson advanced to the round of 16 after beating Cal's Cristina Visico and Cal-Poly's Devin Peek 8-2 in the round of 32.
