Softball Wraps Up Phoenix College Tournament With Two Wins

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Sun Devil Softball team wrapped up the Phoenix College Tournament at ASU's Farrington Stadium Sunday with a 7-1 win over Scottsdale Community College and a 3-0 win over Central Arizona College to push the Sun Devils to an unblemished 10-0 in fall action.

In the first game, ASU beat Scottsdale Community College by a score of 7-1. Mindy Cowles pitched the complete game for the Devils giving up one run on 4 hits.  For ASU, the highlight of the game was back to back home runs in the 3rd inning by CJ Carlson and Mindy Cowles.  Carlson and Kaycee Gamez had the only multiple hits in the game with 2 apiece.  ASU's RBI's came from Heidi Knabe, Mindy Cowles, Bianca Cruz, Kaycee Gamez and CJ Carlson (2).

In game two versus the Central Arizona Vaqueras, Megan Elliott took the mound for ASU, pitching the entire game for the Devils giving up 2 hits and striking out eight.  ASU had 6 hits including a home run by Rhiannon Baca, as ASU rolled on to a 3-0 win. Kaitlin Cochran had 2 hits, a single and a double.  Jessica Mapes and Bianca Cruz each had one hit and scored a run.  Kristen Miller and Rhi Baca had an RBI each.


Next up, the Sun Devils will hold their annual alumni game this Friday, Oct. 27th at 7 p.m. at ASU's Farrington Stadium.
