Logar, Nguyen Through To Singles Semis At ITA Regionals

STANFORD, Calif.- Senior Theresa Logar and sophomore Jessica Nguyen are through to the semifinals at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships in Berkeley.

In addition to her impressive singles performance, Nguyen has teamed with junior Celia Durkin to reach Monday's doubles championship match, which takes place at 9:30 a.m.

Top-seeded Logar defeated Fresno State's Renata Kucerkova 6-2, 6-3 in the round of 16 before downing California's Cristina Visico 7-6 (8), 6-2 in the quarterfinals. Nguyen, seeded No. 8, routed California's Daron Moore 6-1, 6-0 before upsetting No. 2 Suzi Fodor of California 6-4, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.

Nguyen and Durkin will play California's No. 1-seeded team of Fodor and Suzi Babos in the doubles title match Monday. Nguyen and Durkin edged Oregon's AnaCelia Olivos and Domenica Dieskova 8-6 in the quarterfinals before cruising past Nevada's Caroline Bailly and Maria Mizyuk 8-2 in the semifinals.

Stanford's other doubles team of senior Anne Yelsey and freshman Lindsay Burdette was also in action, falling 8-6 to Fodor and Babos of Cal in the semifinals following an 8-6 win over Fresno State's Kucerkova and Melanie Gloria in the quarterfinals.

Durkin and Burdette each won their round of 16 matches before falling just short in the quarters. Durkin posted a 6-2, 7-6 (4) victory over California's Stephanie Kusano before falling to California's Nina Henkel 6-2, 6-4. Burdette defeated Oregon's Dieskova 6-4, 6-4 but was then upended by Fresno State's Gloria 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-3 in the quarters.

Junior Whitney Deason and sophomore Megan Doheny reached the quarterfinals of the doubles main draw, only to fall 8-1 to Fodor and Babos.

In consolation action, junior Lejla Hodzic and Logar will play in Monday's semifinals. The duo advanced following an injury withdraw from Nevada's Alice Hall and Fiorella Velez.
