The USC women's cross country team had a strong fourth-place showing at the CS Fullerton Invitational on Friday (Oct. 20) in Fullerton, Calif., totaling 124 points and trailing only UCSB (52), Long Beach State (93) and CS San Marcos (102).

Senior Ashley Jensen continues to improve as the season goes on, leading the Trojans with a time of 18:52 to finish 16th. Jensen became the first USC runner to lead the team in more than one meet, as she also led the Trojans in their last competition.

Freshman Bridget Helgerson was the second Trojan finisher, placing 19th with her collegiate-best time of 18:55.

'Bridget broke the 19-minute mark for the first time,' said USC cross country coach Tom Walsh. 'She will only get better. I'm really pleased with her improvement and hope she can take this momentum into the Pac-10 Championship.'

Freshman Katherine Ellis was the Trojan's third finisher, placing 25th with a time of 19:10. That time was her college best.

Troy's fourth runner was freshman Daniela Gergley, who valiantly battled dizziness down the stretch and still set a PR with a time of 19:19 to place 30th. Freshman Chanel Fischetti was USC's final scoring runner, placing 34th with a time of 19:33.

Freshmen Natalie Jarvey (43rd, 19:51) and Jennifer Wells (49th, 20:03) were the Trojan's sixth and seventh finishers.

Rounding out the Trojans' strong team effort, but not figuring in the scoring were freshman Kelsey Connor (20:09), senior Christina Eads (20:30) and junior Sara Fusco (21:51).
