Stanford, Calif. - Stanford wrestling will hold its season-opening intrasquad match on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Burnham Pavilion. The matches will determine the team's starting line-up for its first competition of 2006-07, the Nov. 4 Avalon Duals. Wrestle-offs will be followed by the season kickoff dinner, which is set for 5 p.m at the Foothills Tennis and Swim Club in Palo Alto.
'Wrestle-offs are important because they will set our starting line-up for our first competition against Edinboro, Maryland and Mercyhurst next weekend,' noted head coach Kerry McCoy. 'Most likely, the people that win Saturday will represent the Cardinal for much of the season.
Five Cardinal freshmen will make their collegiate debuts, as Cameron Teitelman (Calabasas, Calif.) will take on redshirt freshman Matt Kim at 133 pounds, Lucas Espericueta (Shafter, Calif.) will take on sophomore Tyler Parker at 149 pounds, Alex Muller (Sunnyvale, Calif.) will take on sophomore Luke Feist at 174 pounds and Zack Giesen (Grants Pass, Ore.) will battle fellow freshman Jake Johnson (Prior Lake, Minn.) for the 184-pound spot.
