Oct. 27, 2006

The USC women's golf team, ranked 13th in the most recent Top 25 and seeking its second title of the season, will wrap up its fall competition slate when it takes its chances at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown at the Anthem C.C. in Henderson, Nev., from Monday to Wednesday (Oct. 30-Nov. 1).

The Women of Troy will play a practice round in Henderson on Sunday (Oct. 29) and begin play at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The course is par 72 and measures 6,150 yards.

The field includes No. 7 Arizona, No. 3 Arizona State, BYU, Colorado State, Eastern Washington, Kent State, Missouri, No. 19 Oklahoma State, Oregon State, No. 11 Pepperdine, TCU, Texas A&M, UC Irvine, No. 8 UCLA, No. 13 USC, Washington and UNLV.

Junior Paola Moreno has been USC's most consistent golfer in the young season and leads the team with a 73.89 per stroke average after nine rounds with a low round of 70. She was USC's highest finisher in the past two tournaments, seventh at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational and tying for seventh at the Women's Fall Preview.

Senior Catalina Marin is averaging 74.89 strokes in her nine rounds and has two top 10 finishes this year, a tie for ninth at the Topy Cup and a tie for 10th at the Edean Ihlanfeldt. She has twice posted a low round of 73.

Senior Veronica Felibert and junior Dewi-Claire Schreefel will return to action after missing the Edean Ihlanfeldt while preparing for their play at the recently completed 2006 World Amateur Team Championships (where incoming freshman Belen Mozo also played).

Felibert won USC's first tournament of the season at the Topy Cup and tied for 71st at the Women's Fall Preview. Schreefel, who was USC's top finisher at the WATC, tied for 17th at the Topy Cup for her best finish this season.

Freshman Caroline Kim joins Moreno and Marin as the only Trojan to play in each round this season. Kim posted a season-best tie for 16th at the Topy Cup.

USC last played in this tournament Nov. 1-3, 2004, finishing ninth. Felibert and Marin are the only two Trojans who played in the event who are playing next week.
