Cal is led by senior guard Ayinde Ubaka, an All-Pac-10 performer last season when he averaged 14.5 ppg and 3.8 rpg. Other returning starters include junior guard Omar Wilkes (7.6 ppg) and junior center DeVon Hardin (7.3 ppg, 6.6 rpg), who was an honorable mention All-Pac-10 choice in 2005-06.
Sonoma State, from nearby Rohnert Park, is coming off its first CCAA championship and has earned a No. 15 preseason national ranking from the Division II Bulletin. It is the highest preseason ranking ever for the Seawolves, who finished 18-9 last year.
