Huskies Outlast Oregon, 3-2

EUGENE, Ore.-- It took five games but the fourth-ranked University of Washington Huskies outlasted 24th-ranked Oregon 3-2 Friday night. Game scores were 30-15, 28-30, 30-25, 29-31, 16-14.

The win lifts Washington to 21-3 overall and 11-2 in the Pac-10, while Oregon falls to 17-5 overall and 7-5 in the Pac-10.

Juniors Stevie Mussie and Christal Morrison packed a one-two punch for the Huskies, recording 27 and 21 kills, respectively. Washington also received strong play at the net from sophomore Jessica Swarbrick who collected a career-high 17 kills with a .481 hitting percentage.

Senior All-American Courtney Thompson paced the Huskies to a .224 hitting percentage behind 75 assists, while picking up two of Washington's six aces.

Freshman libero Tamari Miyashiro anchored Washington's defense with a career-high 36 digs, while Mussie collected 17 digs and Morrison added 14.

Junior Alesha Deesing led Washington's blocking game with nine stuff, while senior Janine Sandell added eight blocks and Swarbrick chipped in six.

Overall, the Huskies held advantages in kills (81-68), hitting percentage (.224-.154), digs (90-72) and blocks (18-16).

Washington returns to action next week when it faces Washington State, Nov. 10, in Pullman. The Huskies remain a half a game out of first place in the Pac-10 behind Stanford with five conference matches to go.
