Columbus, Ohio - UCLA men's tennis player Benjamin Kohlloeffel fought off two match points in the semifinals of the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships on Saturday, earning a spot in Sunday's final for the second year in a row.
Kohlloeffel, who was taking on Oklahoma State's Ivan Puchkarov, saved match point twice in the third set tie-breaker to eventually win 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(6). The senior from Germany will also be looking to collect his third national singles title (he won the NCAA crown last May). Today's victory moves his record to 57-5 over the past two seasons. Puchkarov, another surprise semifinalist at No. 61 in the Fila rankings, just missed become the first Cowboy player since Pavel Kudrnac in 1998 to reach the ITA Indoor final.
Sunday's singles final will be broadcast live on RadioTennis.com at Noon.
