Cougar Men's Basketball Rolls Past Central Washington

Nov. 5, 2006

PULLMAN, Wash. - Junior guard Derrick Low tallied a game-high 18 points to lead Washington State to an 84-40 victory over Central Washington in exhibition men's basketball, Sunday.

Low was 8-for-10 from the field while sophomore guard Mac Hopson and junior guard Kyle Weaver added 12 and 10 points, respectively.

'I think you saw the addition of a Mac Hopson and Taylor Rochestie today,' WSU Head Coach Tony Bennett said. 'That allows us to move Derrick Low to the two-guard. Derrick is a very good shooter and is pretty explosive and quick.'

Washington State blew up a close game with a 25-3 run over the final 8:24 of the first half to lead 48-21 at intermission.

The Cougars shot 51 percent from the field and held the Wildcats to 25 percent from the floor while outrebounding Central Washington 453-8.

'The one thing that concerns me was the offensive rebounds (17) they had against us,' Bennett said.

Washington State opens its regular season in the John Thompson Foundation Classic hosted by Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Nov. 10-12. The Cougars will begin the season against UAB.
